A World Lit Only by Fire: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

A World Lit Only by Fire, by William Manchester, is an account of the state of the western world in the time of Ferdinand Magellan. Manchester covers all of the interesting events from peasants' existence to the Borgia Popes to Martin Luther and finally Magellan himself. Manchester does a fine job in describing the religious fervor that drove Magellan on his quest.

It was first published in 1992 and it is still in print in several editions: A paperback edition was issued in Boston by Back Bay Books in 1993 with ISBN 0316545562.
