BeFree: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

BeFree is a Free Software personal computer operating system.

It's based on the Linux 2.6 kernel and GNU utilities and libraries. This project is born to recreate the BeOS experience under Linux and it's evolved introducing changes to the original API and a different windowing system.

The windowing system has hardware graphics acceleration with support for translucent windows, drop shadows and windows transformation on top of the Linux Framebuffer. The graphical user interface is completely vector based and the icon set is done with SVG.
