Dotcommunism: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Dotcommunism (also dot-communism) is the belief that everything on the internet should be free of charge. It is a belief that is increasingly being challenged by organizations that aim to protect copyright, such as the Recording Industry Association of America and the Motion Picture Association of America. The other challenge to dotcommunism comes from internet users themselves. The increasing load they put on servers by using web services forces the providers of these servers to charge fees in order to maintain their services. In addition, with the exception of advertising, web service providers cannot make a profit by providing free services, which is another reason many convert to pay services. Wikipedia is an excellent example in a site that believes in dotcommunism. Encyclopedia Britannica is an example of one that does not.
