Game Freak (ゲームフリーク) is the Japanese video game developer behind the Mother (Earthbound) and Pokémon series of RPGs.
The company was founded on April 26, 1989 by Satoshi Tajiri (田尻 智 Tajiri Satoshi, born August 28, 1965). In honor of the founder, the lead character in the Pokémon cartoon was named Satoshi (in Japan).
Both of their most popular RPG series, Mother and Pokémon, are published by Nintendo in both Japan and North America. Mother 2 was released in North America as Earthbound for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System; and Pokémon is known as Pocket Monsters in Japan.
