gedit is an open-source, small UTF-8 compatible text editor for the GNOME desktop environment.

Designed for the X Window System (XFree86), it uses the GTK+ 2.0 and GNOME 2.0 libraries. Complete GNOME integration is featured, with support for Drag and Drop (DnD) between Nautilus (the GNOME file manager) and the use of the GNOME help system, the GNOME Virtual File System and the GNOME print framework. It features syntax highlighting and tabs for editing multiple files.
