George Wither (1588-1667) was an English poet. He wrote pastoral poems, despite their declining popularity in his time. He served under Oliver Cromwell, and after the Restoration of King Charles II, he was spared through the intervention of Sir John Denham so that Denham would not be considered the worst poet in England.
