Ben Webster: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Ben Webster is also the name of a Canadian politician.

Ben Webster (March 27 1909 - September 20 1973) was an influencial American Jazz musician.

Webster learned to play piano and violin at an early age, before learning to play the saxaphone. He began playing with many jazz artists, including Lester Young, Johnny Hodges, Andy Kirk, Fletcher Henderson, Benny Carter, Cab Calloway, Raymond Scott, and Teddy Wilson. But he was most famous for playing with Duke Ellington.

After three productive years of playing with Ellington, Webster left the band in an angry altercation, during which he cut up one of Ellington's suits. Later, he moved to Europe, continuing to create music until he died.
