Chrome plating: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Chrome plating is a finishing treatment using the electrolytic deposition of Chromium. The most common form of chrome plating are the thin, decorative Bright Chrome in which a typically 0.01 mm layer over a underlying nickel plate imparts a mirror-like finish to such items as metal furniture frames and automotive trim. Thicker deposits, up to 1 mm, called Hard Chrome are used in industrial equipment to reduce friction and wear and to restore dimensions of equipment which have experienced wear.
