After moving to New York Brian Flanagan (Tom Cruise) gets a part time job as a bartender while studying for a business degree. This starts off tougher than he expected but with some tricks of the trade taught to him by his boss he soon becomes the most famous bartender in town. He decides to open up his own bar in Jamaica and everything is going fine, he has the work money and is in a relationship with a lady named Jordan. However things start to take a turn for the worse when he starts an affair, will Jordan forgive him?
