Distributed Coordination Function: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Distributed Coordination Function is a type of MAC technique used in Wi-Fi Wireless LANs. DCF manages the transmission over a medium by allowing each node to listen to surrounding nodes to see if they are transmitting, before transmitting themselves.

Compare with Point Coordination Function, which uses the Access Point in the network to manage media access.
