Dragging Canoe: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Dragging Canoe (fl. 1780) was a Native American leader of people who distrusted any alliance with whites.

Wanting his people to be wary of all whites, he led a band out of the Cherokee nation which became recognized as a new tribal group, the Chickamauga, during the American Revolution, when he saw the traditional Cherokee leadership as being too involved in alliances and intrigues with the whites fighting the war.
