Myst III: Exile is the third title in the Myst computer game series. Unlike its predecessors, Myst and Riven, it was not produced by Cyan, Inc., the series' creator; it was developed by Presto Studios and published by Ubisoft.
However, the game continued in the style of the previous games, allowing the player to navigate through imaginary worlds by clicking on prerendered images. On the technical side, a 360-degree panorama system was introduced (first seen in Atlantis: the Lost Tales), allowing the player to look around smoothly, with video clips seamlessly integrated.
The game featured live action performances including Rand Miller, the creator of the Myst series, returning to play Atrus once again, and Brad Dourif, starring as the villian of the game, Saavedro. Other performances included Maria Galante as Katran and Audrey Uhler as the baby Yeesha.
The story takes place about 15 years after the end of Riven. The Stranger - Atrus's friend whose role the player takes in all of the Myst series games - arrives inside a new home of Atrus and Katran, surrounded by a desert; Katran refers to the entire place as "Tomahna" (in , it is explained how Tomahna relates to the entire storyline, although the term seems to have more uses than we previously thought), and Atrus is just about to show the stranger his new "Releeshahn" project, when suddenly, a new character appears, stealing the Releeshahn linking book and leaving for J'nanin. We later learn that this character, named Saavedro, used to teach Atrus's two sons Sirrus and Achenar (whom the player learned about in the original Myst game) in J'nanin and some of its related ages. However, Sirrus and Achenar stole and destroyed some of what Saavedro loved, so Saavedro, not realizing that Atrus had imprisoned his sons a long time ago, tries to take revenge on him.
The Exile structure is quite like of Myst. The Stranger is on J'nan as a 'central' Age, and has to solve puzzles to get access to linking books for other Ages. He then must solve there other puzzles in order to find a certain symbol and return to J'nanin. Finding all the 3 sumbols, he then gets access to a final Age
