Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

The Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party (GSLP) are a political party operating in Gibraltar. They are the oldest active party in Gibraltar, their formation lying in the trade union movement. They have a broadly democratic socialist agenda, promising increased public spending and better pensions. They also support cutting the size of ministerial salaries.

Like all the parties in Gibraltar they support self-determination for Gibraltar and oppose moves to joint British-Spanish sovereignty. They are historically more hardline in their attitude towards Spain than the Gibraltar Social-Democrats who tend towards a more conscilliatory stance.

They are currently led by Joe Bossano, and are in alliance with the Gibraltar Liberal Party. At the 2003 election to the Gibraltar House of Assembly this alliance polled 39.7% of the vote and returned 7 (out of 15) members (5 GSLP, 2 Liberal).
