Gulf South: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

In the U.S.A., the Gulf South states consist of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, which border on the Gulf of Mexico. Some sources include Arkansas. Oddly, neither Texas nor Florida are part of the usual understanding of the Gulf South, despite them having longer Gulf of Mexico coast lines than the three traditional Gulf South states. This might be due to their larger populations.

Within Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana the phrase "Gulf South" is used in advertisements, government plans, and just plain common parlance.
