IAM: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

iam iambic - one unstressed syllable followed by one stressed syllable. The iam is the most common pattern in poetry. One fifth of an Elizabethan sonnet. Synonymous with a foot five feet a sonnet, or a ‘beat’. Five feet of iams is also referred to as a meter.
