Ikurriña: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

The Ikurriña, flag designed by the founders of EAJ-PNV, is regarded as the nation symbol of Euskadi, or the Basque country. The Ikurriña has a white cross and a green saltire across a red background. The white cross represents Catholicism, the green saltire represents the Oak of Guernica, and the red background represents the blood shed by the Basques to achieve independence. The flag is modelled on the Union Flag of the United Kingdom.
