Jafar: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Jafar is a fictional character in Disney films Aladdin and its sequel, The Return of Jafar. He also occasionally appeared in the Aladdin animated series. He is a sinister magician and the former Grand Vizier of the Sultan of Agraba. Jafar is tall and thin. He is almost always depicted in flowing robes of black, dark red and other moody colors. Jafar has a pet parrot named Iago, who turned good in The Return of Jafar. Jafar carries a staff with which he helps him use his sorcery.

The villain in the 1989 computer game Prince of Persia is also a vizier, but spelled "Jaffar" instead.

Modern renditions of the character are usually based on a character named Jafar or Giafar in tales of the Arabian Nights; this character was in turn based on a real-life official, Harun al-Rashid. The name Jafar means stream, and was also the name of the brother of the 4th caliph.
