John Phillips (musician): Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

John Phillips (August 30, 1935 - March 18, 2001) was an American singer and songwriter. He was a member of the singing group The Mamas & the Papas. He was born in Parris Island, South Carolina.

John Phillips was married to co-band member, Michelle Phillips from 1962 to 1970. They had one child together, Chynna Phillips, the founder of the singing group Wilson Phillips. Their marriage ended due to infidelity on Michelle's part.

He is also the father of actress Mackenzie Phillips.

John Phillips died of heart failure in Los Angeles, California and was interred in the Palm Springs Mausoleum, Palm Springs, California.
