John Sterling (sportscaster): Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

John Sterling is an American sports broadcaster and the radio voice of New York Yankees baseball. He has announced Yankees games since 1989, currently with broadcast booth partner Charlie Steiner.

Prior to being hired by the Yankees, Sterling handled broadcasts for sports teams in New York City and Atlanta, including New York Nets basketball and New York Islanders hockey in the 1970s and Atlanta Hawks basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball during the 1980s.

Sterling is particularly famous among Yankee fans for his signature radio remark following the final out of a Yankees victory, at which point he exclaims, "Yankees win! Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Yankees win!" The length of the word "the" is usually held longer and is more pronounced after dramatic victories, as well as after victories resulting in championships.
