Keith Martin: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Dr. Keith Martin (born 1960) is a Canadian physician and politician. He was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 1993 election as a Reform Party MP from British Columbia. Martin believes in the privatization of health care but has socially liberal views on homosexuality, abortion and other issues and often clashed with the leadership of his party. When the Canadian Alliance was formed he ran in the Canadian Alliance leadership contest finishing a poor fourth with barely 1% of the vote. In January 2004, after the formation of the Conservative Party of Canada, Martin announced he would not join the new party and would sit as an Independent MP and seek the nomination of the Liberal Party of Canada for the next election expected in 2004.
