Lake Burley Griffin is a large body of water in the centre of the Australian federal capital city of Canberra and was constructed in 1963 after the Molonglo River which runs through the city centre was dammed.
The lake consists of three basins: east, central, and west. Burley Griffin's original plans called for nearly circular basins, but the eventual form is more organic and irregular.
Lake Burley Griffin is crossed by Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and Kings Avenue Bridge.
The lake was named after Canberra's designer, Walter Burley Griffin.
