Mitt Romney (b. March 12, 1947) is an American Republican politician from Massachusetts, who has served as Governor of Massachusetts since 2003.
The son of Michigan Governor George Romney, Mitt Romney received his B.A. from Brigham Young University in 1971, then an M.B.A. and J.D. from Harvard University in 1975.
Prior to being elected Governor, Romney was a successful businessman and the 1994 Republican U.S. Senate nominee; running against Senator Ted Kennedy, losing 58% - 41%, the closest election of Kennedy's long Senate career.
From 1999 - 2002 he served as the CEO of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee in charge of planning the 2002 Winter Olympics.
He was elected Governor of Massachusetts in November 2002 over Democrat Shannon O'Brien and Green Party candidate Jill Stein (50%-45%-4%).
