Monastir, Tunisia: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Monastir (Arabic al-munastîr, from Latin monasterium) is a city on the central shore of Tunisia. Its population is 41,400 and the city has an airport.

Monastir was the first Arab town founded in Ifriqiya, on the ruins of the Punic-Roman city of Ruspina.

Tunisian president Habib Bourguiba was born there, and his mausoleum is built there.
