Mordechaj Anielewicz: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Mordechaj Anielewicz (1919-1943) was the commander of the ZOB (Żydowska Organizacja Bojowa, Jewish Fighting Organization) during the Warsaw ghetto uprising. As a leader of the Zionist-socialist youth group Hashomer Hatzair, he was involved in smuggling people out of occupied Europe, but returned to the Ghetto to fight the transportation of Jews to Treblinka. He died in battle in the ZOB bunker at 18 Miła Street on May 8, 1943. Kibbutz Yad Mordechai in Israel is named after him.
