Nejd or Najd (literally "highland", Arabic: نجد) is a region in central Saudi Arabia and the location of the nation's capital, Riyadh. Nejd, also known as Al-Yamamah in medieval times, has been the site of several kingdoms since antiquity, and was also the setting for many of the great romances of classical Arabic poetry.
