Newmarket-on-Fergus (Irish: Cora Chaitlín) is a village in County Clare, Ireland. The village is situated about halfway between Limerick and Ennis, and near to Shannon Town and airport. The main N18 Limerick–Ennis road passed through Newmarket until the village was bypassed in 2003. Dromoland Castle is located 1.5km from Newmarket, along the road towards Ennis. Its population was given in the 2002 census as 1,496. The hinterland around Newmarket-on-Fergus is relatively densely populated by Irish standards due to the proximity of the large industrial area at Shannon. Facilities in the village include a library, school, a Gaelic Athletic Association club, a number of pubs, a Macra club, restaurants and convenience stores. The well known tourist attraction Bunratty Castle is also in the parish. It is the birthplace of Irish nationalist William Smith O'Brien. Neighbouring villages include Clarecastle, Cratloe, Sixmilebridge and Quin, while the town of Shannon is also nearby.
