Nivek Ogre is the stage name adopted by late-twentieth / early twenty-first century performance artist and lyricist Kevin Ogilvie, primarily used in relation to his groundbreaking work in the postmodern art band Skinny Puppy.
The name derives both from the literal reversal of his given first name of "Kevin," and a play on his last name to reference an Ogre, or horrible monster, likely to imply the devastating emotional and psychological trauma his performance art was intended to evoke. Ogilvie retained this stage name beyond the lifespan of Skinny Puppy, utilizing it in the credits of all of his published works, and often personally being referred to simply as "Ogre" in critical and journalistic circles.
Ogre has been involved with many industrial music acts such as KMFDM, Rx, Pigface and Ministry. His current projects include the reformed Skinny Puppy as well as his solo project ohGr.
