Otto II (955-983), the third German ruler of the Saxon or Ottonian dynasty, married Theophanu, daughter of the Eastern Roman Emperor Romanus II. He succeeded his father Otto the Great as Holy Roman Emperor in 973, and was succeeded by his son Otto III.
