Encyclopedia: Pomeranian Voivodeship

Pomeranian Voivodeship (also "Pomerania Province" — Polish: województwo pomorskie) is a voivodeship, or province, in northern Poland within the historic region of Eastern Pomerania. Its capital is Gdańsk.

Pomerania Province was established January 1, 1999, out of the former voivodeships of Gdańsk, Elbląg and Słupsk, pursuant to the 1998 Local Government Reorganization Act. The province's name recalls the region's traditional name, Pomorze (in English, "Pomerania").
