Porsche 914: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

The Porsche 914 was a collaboration between Volkswagen and Porsche to provide an entry level sportscar. Released in 1969, the Porsche 914 was the first production Porsche with a mid-engine. The Porsche 986 also referred to as the Porsche Boxster is the latest mid-engined offering from Porsche. The 914 came with a fuel-injected 1.7-litre flat-4 engine based on the unit powering Volkswagen's short lived 411 and 412 saloon car. The Porsche 914/6 came with a carburated 2.0-liter flat six cylinder Porsche engine. In 1973 a 2.0-liter four cylinder model was released. In 1974 a lower powered 1.8 litre replaced the 1.7 litre previously available. They all had a wide, wedge-shaped body and are often referred to as VW-Porsches. In Europe, they were sold as VW 914. The last 914 was manufactured in 1975.
