The Prime Minister of Spain or President of the Government of Spain (Spanish: Presidente del Gobierno) is the head of government of Spain. He is usually referred to in English as the Prime Minister, the usual term for the head of government in a constitutional monarchy. In Spain, he is often called simply Presidente and Spaniards will often translate his title in English to President. More than once, the Spanish term has caused embarrassing errors among foreign authorities, such as referring to the "President of the Spanish Republic", by Jeb Bush, governor of Florida and brother of George W. Bush, President of the US.
Following legislative elections, the leader of the majority party or the leader of the majority coalition is usually proposed as Prime Minister by the King and elected by the National Assembly. Deputy Prime Ministers are appointed by the King on the proposal of the Prime Minister.
