The primrose is any of over 500 species of low-growing herbs of the genus Primula (Primulaceae). Some species are grown for their ornamental flowers. This genus includes "cowslips".
Perennial primroses bloom during the spring; their flowers can be purple, yellow, red, pink, and/or white. Generally, they prefer filtered sunlight and a temperature around 20°C.
The Evening primrose (Oenothera) is a completely different plant in the family Onagraceae
