Quantitative: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Something is quantitative if it can be measure numerically. Examples would be the price of milk or the rate of uptake of oxygen in a lung. This word is often used to emphasise a difference:

"This is qualitative not quantitative."

Use in political discourse

  • SATS are often accused of attempting to put a quantitative measure to something that is fundamentally qualitative.
  • In general a politician uses the above phrase when trying to undermine the position of another regarding some quantitative measure.
