The rack is a torture device consisting of a rectangular frame, usually wooden, with a roller at one end. The victim's feet are bound to one end of the frame, and their wrists are tied to ropes attached to the roller. As the interrogation progresses, a handle and ratchet attached to the roller may be used to increase the tension on the ropes by degrees, which quickly becomes excruciatingly painful as the victim's joints slowly dislocate.
