Ricardo Carvalho is a Portuguese football player. He was born on 18 May 1978 in Amarante, near Porto, as his colleague in Portuguese National Team Nuno Gomes. He plays as a defender and was considered one of the best defenders of Euro 2004 Championship, along with Jorge Andrade. In the 2004 offseason, the Porto player was pursued by several top European clubs, and was finally signed by English big-spenders Chelsea. At Stamford Bridge, Carvalho will join his former manager José Mourinho and former teammate Paulo Ferreira, both of whom were signed by Chelsea earlier in the offseason.
