Richard Seddon: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Richard John Seddon, popularly known as King Dick, became one of New Zealand's better-known Premiers/Prime Ministers.

Born in St Helens in Lancashire, he emigrated to New Zealand and became a miner on the West Coast before entering politics. He succeeded to the leadership of the Liberal Party following the death of John Ballance in 1893, and dominated New Zealand political life until his own death in office on 10 June 1906.
