Ripponden: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Ripponden is a town in the county of West Yorkshire, England, near Halifax, on the River Ryburn. It is the site of a Roman settlement, and there is a Roman Road over Blackstone Edge, a rocky ridge of millstone grit.

Ripponden is the main settlement in a small group of villages, each with its own identity: Barkisland, Ripponden, Rishworth and Soyland. 4,931 people live in the area. The citizens of Ripponden are represented by Ripponden Parish Council, whose website includes further information about the village and surrounding settlements.
