The Santa Clarita Valley is part of the Santa Clara River valley, squeezed between the San Gabriel Mountains and Santa Susana Mountains to the South and the Sierra Pelona/Liebre Mountains/Topatopa Mountains to the North. Downstream of Santa Clarita, it is called Heritage Valley. The upstream portion is called Soledad Canyon.
