The Scottish Parliament (Constituencies) Act 2004 is a British Act of Parliament that amends the Scotland Act 1998 which established the Scottish Parliament. The Act received Royal Assent on July 22, 2004.
The Act reduced the number of Scottish Members of Parliament at Westminster from the then 72 to 58. This made the size of constituencies in Scotland approximately the same as England and Wales. Under the Scotland Act 1998, the number of MPs at Westminster had been equal to the number of Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) elected under the First Past the Post system; the Act ended this link.
