Simon Marks: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

Simon Marks (1888 - 1964) was an English businessman.

Marks was born in Leeds. In 1907 he inherited a number of "penny bazaars" from his father, Michael Marks, which had been established with Thomas Spencer. With the help of Israel Seiff, he helped to build these shops into a nationally recognised chain of Marks & Spencer stores.

Marks was knighted in 1944 and made 1st Baron Marks of Broughton in 1961.
