On this page about Song Dynasty:
The Song Dynasty (Chinese: 宋朝; pinyin: Sòng cháo) was a ruling dynasty in China between 960–1279 AD. It succeeded the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era, and was succeeded by the Yuan Dynasty. It was the first government in world history to issue paper-printed money,b[›] and the first Chinese polity to establish a permanent standing navy.c[›]
Between the 10th century and 11th century, the population of China increased dramatically, doubling in size. Within its borders, the Northern Song Dynasty had a population of some 100 million people.d[›][1] This came about through expanded rice cultivation in central and southern China, along with Chinese farmers growing and producing abundant yields of food beyond self-sufficiency, hence their ability to sell greater amount of food in the market.[1]
