Sōngshān (Hanyu Pinyin) (Chinese: 松山, WG: Sung-shan, Tongyong Pinyin: Songshan) is a district of Taipei. The Songshan Domestic Airport is located here.

History

Originally named Sikou (錫口), which is the Taiwanese language pronunciation of what a lowland Taiwanese aborigine word meaning "Where the river twists". In 1920 (during the Japanese Occupation), the place became Songshan Hamlet (松山庄), part of Qixing Prefecture, Taipei District (台北州七星郡). In 1946, it became a district with 26 municipal villages (里). Its boundary was altered in May 1994, when Keelung River was artificially moved south slightly.

Songshan is divided into 4 regions (地區), or secondary district (次分區), which in turn are divided into 34 municipal villages. They following placenames are romanized in Tongyong Pinyin, with Hanyu Pinyin in parentheses where they differ:

The airport locates in Dongshe Region, mostly in Jinjhong Village.

Tourism

  • Ciyou Temple (慈祐宮 "Protected by the Kindness"), built in 1753, is dedicated to a dark-faced goddess Matsu.
  • Siahai City Lord Temple (霞海城隍廟) was built in 1753.
  • Taipei City Lord Temple (台北府城隍廟) was built in 1926.
  • The Raohe Night Market (饒河街觀光夜市), organized in 1987, contains over 160 booths.

Education

  • Sung San Community College (松山社區大學): located within Sisong High School (西松高中), in Pengcheng Village [1]
  • Yu Da High School of Commerce and Home Economics (私立育達高級商業家事職業學校, short 育達商職): private, in Meiren Village [2]

In addition, there are two regular high schools (Sisong and Jhunglun), six middle schools, eight elementary schools, and 28 kindergartens in Songshan.
