The South Bay is a region in the southwest peninsula of Los Angeles County. The bodies of water include Santa Monica Bay and San Pedro Bay.
The cities and towns of the South Bay include Carson, Dominguez, El Segundo, Gardena, Harbor City, Lawndale, Lomita, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, San Pedro, Signal Hill, Torrance and Wilmington
Several ports and harbors in the South Bay provide access to the popular Santa Catalina Island.
The Queen Mary resort is permanently docked in Long Beach. Other interesting attractions include the Aquarium of the Pacific.
Whites reside in several affluent seaside communities such as Manhattan Beach and Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates. Upper-class Chinese Americans have a small but growing presence in the area as well.
The cities of Torrance and Gardena have significantly large concentration of Japanese Americans whereas Carson has a large Filipino American community within Los Angeles. Long Beach is home to the largest Cambodian American population in the United States, with an enclave called "Little Phnom Penh".
Long Beach is home to an African American population, but working-class Latinos have settled heavily in the area as well.
