The Rock is an action movie relased in 1996. The movie stars Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery and Ed Harris.

In the film, John Patrick Mason (Connery) is a British spy who stole a film that contained U.S. government secrets, such as the identity of John F. Kennedy's assassin. He also was the only person to ever escape from Alcatraz, but he was later caught. After that he was locked in a higher security prison were he was marked as dead and everything about him was erased.

Years later, Brigadier General Francis X. Hummel (Ed Harris) assembles a team of U.S. Navy SEALs and U.S. Marines and occupies Alcatraz Island, taking a group of tourists as hostages. He threatenes to kill all of San Francisco's population with VX gas missiles unless the government agrees to pay money to the families of American commandos lost in classified operations throughout the world, and also to him and his men.

As the only man ever to escape from Alcatraz, Connery is the only one who can guide Cage and a team of fighters into the base to neutralize Harris.
