Translocon: Meaning (information, definition, explanation, facts)

The translocon is the complex of proteins associated with the translocation of nascent polypeptides into the cisternal space of the endoplasmic reticulum.

The translocon is a complex involved in regulating the interaction of ribosomes with the endoplasmic reticulum as well as regulating translocation and the integration of membrane proteins in the correct orientation.

Once the nascent chain-translocon complex is assembled, the growing polypeptide passes directly from the large ribosomal subunit to the center of the translocon.

The transfer of the nascent polypeptide to the translocon is powered by GTP hydrolysis by signal-recognition particle.
