Uruguay is one of the most successful national football teams in the world, having won two World Cups, the Olympic Gold Medal two times in 1924 and 1928, the Copa América fourteen times, and the 50th anniversary World Champions tournament that it hosted in 1980. Uruguay were the first winners and hosts of the World Cup, beating Argentina 4-2 in 1930. They also won the 1950 World Cup on Brazilian soil.
