On this page about X-ray:
X-rays (or Röntgen rays) are a form of electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength in the range of 10 to 0.01 nanometers, corresponding to frequencies in the range 30 to 30 000 PHz (1015 hertz). X-rays are primarily used for diagnostic radiography and crystallography. X-rays are a form of ionizing radiation and as such can be dangerous. In many languages it is called Röntgen radiation after the investigator of the radiation, Wilhelm Röntgen.

Superficial X-rays do not penetrate very far before they are absorbed. These X-rays are very good for thin skin problems and have a useful depth of a couple of millimetres, certainly not more than 5mm...

in an X-Ray image. Typically, radiocontrast agents are metallic compounds. For example, a solution of barium sulfate is often swallowed by a patient before an X-ray image is taken of the gastrointestinal tract. Most radiocontrast agents absorb X-Rays and increase radiodensity, so as to create a more...
The Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer ( RXTE ) satellite observes the fast-moving, high-energy worlds of black holes, neutron stars, X-ray pulsars and bursts of X-rays that light up the sky and then disappear forever. Observations from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer have been used as evidence for the...
PIXE ( Particle Induced X-ray Emission or Proton Induced X-ray Emission ) is a technique used in the determining of the elemental make-up of a material or sample. When a material is exposed to an ion beam, atomic interactions occur that gives off wavelengths of EM radiation in the x-ray part of...
